    Fallen trees on the trail

I wouldn't cut anything at the entrance to a trail - but after I'm a mile or so in if I come across fallen trees I'm taking them out. If they're suspended I lash the lighter side down to something sturdy and put the Husqvarna to work. I'm sure different areas have different rules, but I've...

You'll be alright. If you do get stuck, there will be plenty of help to get you rolling again in no time.

I know there is a filter somewhere above the rear diff that can set off all the warning lights on the car's computer that could be problematic. I found that out the hard way - working my way through deep water for a long way on flooded streets. However, most of the time on the trails I am on, I...

If some entrepreneur on here wants to fab some parts for less than what these big dogs are charging - I fully endorse that and I am willing to pay! I'm not confident in my welding skills.

    Old Nc 105

Worth mentioning... If you try any of those other spots - I have posted routes with campsites, hazards, etc for a lot of the other areas mentioned. I didn't map Brown Mountain Beach Road which runs straight through Wilson Creek because it is such a mainline track. Craig Creek is closed because...

    Old Nc 105

My overland rig IS a Subaru. Granted it has been highly modified - but Old NC 105 is a simple track. I don't know what kind of attempt could result in a bone stock 2.5 Outback not being able to make it there. It's a gravel road, super wide & highly maintained. It can't even remotely be...

    Old Nc 105

Yes. It probably can as long as you are a competent driver (you are on Overland Bound so I am assuming that to be the case). My sister went to a wedding up there a few weeks back & I was summoned to take care of my 6 month old & 8 year old nieces. I drove Old NC 105 in her Ford Edge (it already...

This just occurred to me... since you have a metal shop - would you be interested in fabricating any rock sliders? $500 from primitive is a hard pill to swallow. Especially after I helped another guy install a set & I saw how relatively simple they are.

It just made the most sense. It let me put it on the highest point on the car, but also allows me to put them away inside the trunk easily for if I need to go into a parking garage or anything like that.

My CB is a Uniden Bearcat CMX760 base station with a Cobra HGA 1500 36" magnetic mount antenna. My GMRS is a Midland MXT275 base station with a Midland MXTA11 6DB Gain magnetic mount antenna. I went with those base stations because all the controls are built into the handset. I wired them to...

I've been looking at the Torq lockers hard - the last I heard about them was from the r/battlewagon sub on Reddit. A guy on there didn't recommend them for your daily driver. They recommended some kind of LSD instead of a full locker, but it's still really vague on what LSD options would work...

I didn't know Subaru offered these - but they really don't give any details about them, do they? The plates from Primitive are made from a good, high-grade aluminum and are 3/16 thick. These just say that they are "steel." They don't say how thick they are, how much they weigh, or really give...

They are essentially the same thing. You could literally make one yourself with a road sign. LP is just the "premier" aftermarket supplier and therefore is much more expensive than everyone else. Go with Primitive.

Hi-Lift: How many people NOT running them?

I don't use the bag that originally came with it, I put mine in an old gym bag. My overland rig is a 2019 Subaru Outback so it is smaller than pretty much everything else. My space is even more limited because I have to keep my backseat open for my 90+ lbs Doberman co-pilot. I have a Wilco...

Hi-Lift: How many people NOT running them?

The ARB BushRanger X-Jack is legitimately the best piece of recovery gear I have and is also the most versatile jack I have ever had. I have used the Hi-Lift style jacks before for changing out a tractor tire and they are sketchy at the best of times. Bottle jacks can also be pretty sketchy. The...

The complete strut & spring assemblies offered by RalliTek are a solid deal. I wish I would have given them more consideration before I swapped it all out. Hindsight is 20/20, but I have learned a lot more about my suspension. I run RalliTek springs on the front and King springs on the rear...

I was just looking through my reservation details. They allow (2) vehicles per site. "Campers are allowed either a maximum of one trailer/RV and one tent, OR two tents per site. Maximum of 2 passenger vehicles per site. Additional parking is available at the campground." I'm sure if I talk to...

Old NC 105 is the baseline standard in the area. Even when it is washed out it is pretty easy as long as you take it easy. I did it 2 weekends ago with my 6 month old & 8 year old nieces in the backseat of my sister's Ford Edge (I know, its an awful vehicle. I tried to talk her into a Subaru...
