Ours was, note was, a 2wd and had a similar sound. Wound up being the bearing and had to replace the entire hub, don't remember why think it's a sealed unit. But being a 2wd it wasn't a big deal and the parts weren't that expensive. Wish I could give more detail but it was a couple of years ago...
Get ahold of Bobby Nelson on the wix app screen name Xploemor, he's with trails Offroad and is currently mapping in Colorado. Great guy and a wealth of information
Did you recently put a light bar on? They're known to cause a odd hum. If so try pointing it slightly down. I thought I had a CV or bearing issue also, drove me nuts trying to figure it out.
Wife takes the pics, I pay for the gear. It's black and makes clicky noises when you push the button
Should have noted that the pics were taken at Sheeps Bridge North of Phoenix, AZ. You can't tell by the blue sky in the pics but about three hours after these shot the sky's unexpectedly ripped...
I have every intention of running this rig into my grave, didn't by it to stare at in the driveway hoping the depreciation doesn't ruin my retirement plans. It's a Jeep.
Option one, remove the lock before heading out to nowhere.
Option two, have a means to cut said lock. I carry a 14 inch bolt cutters. Comes in handy if you've ever wound up with some unseen Barb wire wrapped around any rotating bits and pieces.
Thanks, this would be option "B" for me. I going with a rocker activated solenoid. A pillar mounted with one that is master power for the bank, winch-compressor and inverter. No high draw without the key/engine on. Call me paranoid.
I subscribe to the "there's no kill like over kill" theory. Had a buddy who's winch went active after taking a short bath, the aftermath wasn't pretty. Thanks for the info.
Any recommendations which brand of relay/solenoid to use for a 12k winch power cutoff? The spec sheet says it pulls close to 400 amps at full load and I would like to avoid a melt down if I ever have to work it that hard.
I know this is way after the fact but, McKay's auto in Mesa is the place to go. It's so hard to find a honest shop anymore but AJ lives on his reputation. I drive from surprise for oil changes if that says anything.
We've been running Micky Thompson mtz p3's on a '17 JKU and have zero complaints. Have about 20k on them, unfortunately more street then dirt, and just past about 50% wear. Excellent traction on all surfaces including wet pavement. You may want to take a look at them.
Howdy from the desert South West. We are very much getting into overlanding and enjoying it. Our JKU is far from complete but has proven itself more than capable.
