Heated Camp Shower vs. Powered Cooler/Freezer/Fridge

I have a bunch of super chests (4) and I am slow to replace with a refrigerator. If I was your shoes now it would get a refrigerator and a way to keep it powered.

    Requesting overlanding buddy/partner

Welcome Glen! All of overlanding is all a compromise, Broncos are to small for me, you'll be able to to take it places my truck will not go. I can camp with a comfort level you can't just because I carry more, as a example. Start out slow and make sure overlanding is right for you. Look at...

    Going it alone, or not?

When my wife was alive we mostly went together or I would go solo. Traveling in groups is very frustrating , agendas, timing, drama, are mostly more than I want to deal with. Now my travel is 80% solo, my girlfriend is always welcome but camping isn't really her thing.

    Tire Talk 2023

The KO2's are pretty crapy. I'll be looking for a skinny something here in a couple of years or maybe a General tire. I'll be following this, Cooper makes the Micky Thomson Baja tire and the (maybe) the Dick Cepek tire too. My favorite tire is the one that takes me there and gets me home...

    The Perfect Camp Stove

I had the same stove before the Cook Partner that I now use. After a long day of washboard in Baja, I discovered the gas line to the second burner had broken. I crimped it back and had it brazed. CampChef said I voided the warranty. I was day 2 on a 2 week surf trip. I am done with Camp Chef and...

    The Perfect Camp Stove

I would look at JetBoil Genesis Basecamp as a one burner, they have excellent flame control. If you choose a Cook Partner you kids will use it for life.

Best Thing You Can Do to Save Trails

Yes, I travel solo most trips and pick up wherever I go also. The little things make a big difference. Taking a 4X4 driving corse is also very important, many guy in the back country love to use that skinny peddle instead of knowledge. I don't know how many trials just get worse because of miss...

    Budget Weekender Rig

I have owned many Honda autos they have been bullet proof. They are not for more than dirt roads. Why not get a trailer?

Good family tent that can fit two Disc-O-Bed bunks?

There are a bunch of springbar style of tents. The white ducks have more shoulder room. This style tents are outstanding and very bullet proof.

    Always thank the wife

I agree. My wife never camped before me, we started slow with showers and flushers, 2 years later she was dry camping at Baja surf spots, and loving it. We camped together for 33 years all over western USA and Baja. I lost her 7 years ago, I am so glad we were able to spend all those nights...

    Storing eggs

Nobody has offered this up. There is an egg company in So Cal that has a 3 part container, middle is the bottom, left fits over the eggs right is cover and label. the goes over the top of the egg side. I purchase a carton of those eggs about every other year. I go 10 day with out resupply. I put...

    First Rig Build!!!

I am a F150 fan and I would go with a coyote motor. The turbo V6 has had some issues. There are lots of Toyota fans here, it's been my experience that they don't hold up as well with loads. YMMV. Both have plenty of upgrades in the aftermarket world. After little trucks and 1/2 ton truck I've...

My experience with Overlanding vs Off-Roading: Is the barrier to entry for Overlanding LOWER?

Great wright up! I wheeled a Datsun first, then a Toyota, before that I drove a sedan all over Baja both on and off pavement. Wheeling is great fun but expensive, those spontaneous body mods and broken parts get expensive. I also prefer to hike, surf, kayak, fish, mtn. bike over driving all day...

    Overlanding with bears?

As a backpacker in California I can say we all have not switched back to food in our tent. We use bear containers as per the rules in State and National parks. I have watched bears go through cars vans and tents for an apple or a bag of chips. You do you MidOH, I'll watch for a far!

The Quest for Travel, Freedom, and Adventure

I have always recreated, I never carried a vacation day forward. Most of my working life taking more than a 10 or 12 days off cost me income. I couldn't take the last week of the month off because of billing. the most I ever took off was 2 1/2 weeks for Africa and 2 week to surf into. I love...

Baja for the next few days!

As of today you can drive to the tip, there are workarounds for the washouts and the boulders can be driven around with caution. A couple of bridges are out but have been graded side roads. I have no idea what the back roads are like. This storm was very windy about 1/3 the water as last year.
