Photography comes and goes for me and seems to come as my outdoor activity increases...go figure ;) My gear is pretty old at this point and I'd like a new Nikon camera body but it all works and gets the job done. My current cameras:
Nikon D80 - several filters & remote releases, telescope...
Surprisingly little traction here on this thread. Maybe I overestimated the number of river folks? No matter, the knowledge transfer value remains high for overlanders.
One of things I find most bothersome and tedious while out for longer adventures is keeping the dishes and cookware clean...
Infuriating! I had this happen to my KTM 950 a few years ago when I parked it under my deck overnight to keep it out of the weather. It required a whole new harness because the "tasty" wires are apparently all at the main fuse box housing. BTW porcupines will do similar damage to low lying...
Where/How do you store the PullPal when travelling? We too frequently break Rule #1 and travel solo so items like this are a necessity. I believe the rear swing-out bumper I'm looking at has a mounting option for this and a Hi-lift but if not...where does it go?
Well, the Decked system arrived. I'll be doing a 2012 Toyota Tundra DC build thread and cover the install of this system among other things in the coming months. I still haven't pulled the trigger on the topper as I now have too many ideas to ponder there and need more time to think it through.
Plenty o'fun to be had in your F-150 in the San Juans! The best guide book for full size rigs I have found is this one: 4WD Adventures Colorado They cover it for smaller rigs too but this is one of the few guide books I've come across that specifically mentions full size rigs and trail...
I generally agree with your sentiment here. I've had the small trail rig and there is no doubt it can go places my Tundra never will (primarily tightly treed trails) but everything else favors the full size rig for family travel.
I know this is now a few months old but I thought I would share some experience with the Optima batteries for others. In my experience they work as long as you drive your vehicle daily. If your vehicle sits for a week or more it is very likely the Optima will not be there for you when you do...
@Road Yup, the dry bags are indispensable and multi-use (haul water) if needed. Your toilet is a beast! Mine has to be person portable with the current setup but I get all of the needed bits into (2) 20mm ammo cans. One can holds the tank, a roll of TP, and the liquid hand sanitizer; the...
There are a lot of threads on reducing weight, packing small, increasing convenience, etc. Those with backpacking experience start spartan and work up typically, while those coming from a car camping background are usually unnecessarily heavy and struggling to reduce. There is another way to...
I used to keep a second set of seasonal tires (studded snows) when I lived out in the sticks as I had steep gravel switchback roads to traverse daily. It was that or chain up frequently vs occasionally. I still have them honestly, but as I upgrade to my new larger tires and suspension I will...
Really, the only thing going I dislike about my Tundra is the "bucket of no return"...that well below the wipers that holds leaves, snow, about 15 gallons of water that freezes solid in winter. It is just the dumbest thing ever. Apparently in Texas there is no weather (or wherever the Tundra...
OK, made it all the way through the thread...not a single mention of the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3s. Other expedition and overland channels are all over this tire. Does anyone have experience with it? I need a truly do it all tire here in Colorado. We get a bit of severe cold, plenty of...
No worries, thanks for the info. I'll put my dealer's feet to the fire on it ;) He may simply want to up sell me on the more expensive CX topper. I truly appreciate your response. I delayed ordering on Saturday pending it.
My neighbor claims to get almost 50k out of his KO2s on his 2007 Tundra DC. I find that a ridiculous number but he is on his third set and swears by them. I am considering those or the MT Baja ATZ P3s. The KO2s are several pounds lighter which is important to me. The wet road issue you...
Is the exoskeleton also from ARE? My dealer is telling me that the Overland model won't work with their "metal subframe system" used on the CXHD. I prefer the looks of the Overland topper to the CX.
