I really like Viewranger - it's a great app designed for all sorts of adventurous activities.
Lots of maps and satellite imagery available of varying detail and downloadable for offline use. Some free and some paid for.
Full UK OS mapping at 1:25k is about £25 a year.
Also has a tracker...
Yes, changing the engine myself but had the rebuild done by ACR Automotive. Looks like a good engine - time will tell if it's as good as the original.
Have responded to the rally point, I think..?
Looking forward to it! Forest drives look like great fun.
I pulled the engine for a rebuild this weekend so attendance dependent upon getting the new block installed in time. Nothing like a deadline...
I've seen a few Defenders here in the UK painted in tinted U-POL Raptor. Looked really good and apparently tough as old boots!
This one at a national Land Rover gathering:
Am about to repaint mine and dithering over whether to do the same, seems like once you've done it there's no going...
Similar to most, we use a combination of head-torches, Coleman Dual-Fuel lantern, mini gas lantern and a couple of rechargeable led workshop lamps with mag mounts.
Planning to fit an LED strip to the awning (anyone done this, is it worthwhile?) and some LED floods of the roof rack.
Have to...
Some nice ideas here. Wish I'd have asked the same question years ago!
I used a DIY awning for about 4 years until I finally invested in an ARB.
I'll post some images tomorrow and an explanation in case the concept is useful to anyone. Basically like a giant roller blind made from drain...
Welcome to the forum Mr E!
A Northern run sounds good to me, I'm based in the Lakes just a few miles from the traditional C2C route. Been discussing the green lanes C2C over the past few weeks too and it all looks pretty good.
Unfortunately my gearbox and rear diff are out for rebuild and...
Unfortunately I haven't managed to get to my PC tonight but I did have a bash on MS Paint :dizzy: at work.
I think I could work up a more stylised version ( greater contrast between the mountains/lake/coast/forest/fields) with a different colour palette but it's a start.
Looking at the other...
I'm really into the Orland Stove at the moment. Getting both heat and light from the stove is a real winner.
I guess the glass could be a weak point but it does come in a decent box, not sure if the flue fits in too.
Also has the advantage of a decent rear-exit flue with double-wall section...
To me, this feels like the right approach.
When you look at the existing patches they manage to represent significant geographical areas without referencing administrative or political boundaries. It makes sense really when you consider that Overlanding is what has brought us together.
Could...

Hi Anthony and another warm welcome to OB.

Norway and Sweden are on my hit list for next summer...
Following the inaugural OB Adventure Overland Show gathering in September 2017, here is another great opportunity to see a load of amazing rigs and adventure travel vendors all over again!
This "all-new" Spring event will feature some additional indoor trade stands as well as designated camping...
So, it's taken over a week for me to unpack and catch up with the OB forum - what a great weekend - some cracking rigs, innovative ideas and really great company. Most of my pics are duplicates of the above and on FB . Relaxing around the fire on Saturday evening was a great opportunity to get...
I registered a few days ago; got an email with an activation link a few days later and everything worked straight away after clicking on the link.
Hope this helps... welcome to the OB community [emoji3] happy trails!

Some great recipes guys, but for me it has got to be the classic bacon buttie. Even better with fresh, trail-made soda bread farls.
Tried this recipe out on one of our first overland trips and it has been a staple ever since. Inspired by a local "celebrity" baker who made these in the back of...
