Everything has come and now i just need to get the truck back.
Currently at a shop getting some sliders done. Because of the high GVWR these sliders are pretty overkill in terms of wall thickness. 105" total length
Well, the bumper came, just waiting on the winch and everything else. Also dropped the truck off to get some sliders made for the truck. Wont be installing anything till at least next monday. Havent been able to hit the trails for a few weeks mainly due to work but I can't wait to get out there.
Call this the most newbie question of all. I see there are mobile and handheld solutions. I know the handheld's have the audio piped out through the device but for the mobile CB's does the audio come out of the Box or the Mic. Also for most of you guys, do you purchase a 5watt external speaker...
No worries. I will probably add more as i go along but that is a good starter set of recovery gear.
Also, @Fred Austin in terms of a hi-jack as a winch be very careful. Watch some youtube videos and see if you really want to even do it. Its a very dangerous tool if not used correctly. Also the...
It will be used as an actual tow strap. IE, if something were to break someone can tow me. That is also why i picked up the snatch strap for dynamic recoveries.
Well I pulled the trigger on a few things last night. Sometimes being awake and working at 1 am is not good. Luckily everything was already on my shopping list.
Ended up going with the following
Warn Zeon 12-s
Warn Ascent Bumper
ARB Snatch Block 9000
ARB Snatch Strap 12T WLL
ARB Tree Trunk...
Well i guess i am going the opposite direction of everyone and having my rig pig out for right now. Winch / Bumper / Sliders. At least its not at the top of the vehicle i guess. There isnt much weight i can take off the rig. But there i will keep the weight in mind as i progress
So my current rig and previous tow rig are diesel.
My old 99 2wd long bed was used to tow everywhere and it was diesel. The pros of diesel are the price of diesel doesn't fluctuate during holidays as much as gas prices does. Diesel on that one was generally reliable but it all related to fuel...
They sandwich the frame and is pretty much one of the only sliders available other than just going straight custom. I have been ready to pull the trigger on a bumper for almost 2 months now just trying to figure out what to get
The following are the pros and cons of the AEV / Warn / Mercenary...
The power wagons sure are sexy, but when i was looking for my truck i was still towing my 20 ft enclosed and having towed that with a tundra the mpg was horrible due to the wind resistance so i went with diesel since my old 2nd gen cumming got almost 11 mpg towing. +I have a soft spot in my...
I give up on spare parts. Trying to keep spare parts on the trail for a ram is expensive and heavy.
Getting spare axle shafts are about 300 each and about 20-30lbs
Getting spare or using oem track bars are pretty easy but the weight penalty is bad
Getting spare front and rear driveshafts get...
Aaah, did i put this in the wrong forum? We were most likely going to leave saturday morning and come back sunday night. With the little ones, its hard to get them to even camp for one night
Yeah i know the pain i priced it out by a reputable shop up in sacramento and they wanted 3k to just do a gear swap. then if i included lockers they were saying 6500 to just get the air fitting out the axle without any wiring. Sadly for the aam axles the only selectable locker option is either...
I am planning on a quick overnight trip leaving saturday morning and coming back sunday evening. Looking to go to poker flat and cleghorn as well as any other random off-chutes.
Saw the nice camp spot from last year when other OB members went and was hoping to do the same.
This is an open...
Since i didnt really see anything recent, what are your thoughts on trail maintenance. For instance, if there if a fallen log, do you guys take out the axes and chop it down then drag it off to the side of the trail? For low hanging branches and brush sticking out on the side do you guys clear...
Just purchased a quick tire deflator / flat tire kit / maxsa recovery boards
Next i will probably purchase some regovery rear. Snatch strap / tow strap / High shackle / Shackles
Might want to check out the 2016 rams

I am surprised at how many differences there are between a power wagon and a diesel truck. I wonder how much of a pain it would be to find some used 9 1/4 and 11.5 axles...
Definitely want to improve and keep learning. One thing that i have always asked about in terms of trail riding was large overhanging branches, do you guys normally clear the braches as a little bit of trail maintenance or leave it alone?
