Semper, this is my second time around being stationed here and I hate to say but haven't explored much outside of the local area. Later this year when it starts cooling off again and some of the bugs go away I'll start forcing my wife to head west to the mountains and do some good camping...
The only "specialty" items I carry that aren't already in your every day first aid kit would be a few tourniquets, the highest dosage of Motrin I can find available, a few large H bandages, and some fishing line/needle in case for some reason I need to stitch something up on the spot.

I traveled near that area a few times to and fro. Its funny that I've been in this state for about 9 years and some change together but I haven't been able to explore to much outside of the local coastal area... work keeps me tied down way more than I'd like most days but it pays the bills.
