    Fuel mileage

I agree with the others, 4x4 and overlanding is basically accepting 15 mpg and usually worse depending on what you choose. Unless its a Subaru that might be a bit better. I chose my vehicle based on its capabilities and reliability and while I'll try to maximize my mpg I'll just accept I...

    Warn Winch?

I would say keep the winch as simple as possible and avoid electronic clutches. A winch is relied on once everything else has some how gone wrong, a simple lever to turn will always work reliably.

Thanks. My eventual plan is a roof top tent on the bed then head out and run the magruder corridor trail. (next fall if all goes well) Should be a fun trip.

    Any Fellow Michigander?

I think that Tinker, Michiganoverland and RyanC are trying to plan a trip to the UP for next summer. I think the general plan is to try and go end to end of the UP avoiding paved roads and checking out the sights along the way.

All lights are Kawell from Amazon and really like them for the cost. Yes they aren't rigid or KC but I like them for my uses. The switches are vetomile water proof 12/24 volt from amazon.

a few missed things that happened along the way. Dual hydraulic 1/4 wall tube reservoirs with pump and valve body mounted to the end of the drivers side one. On the lighting side. There are 4 small led cube light mounted to the bottom of the dump bed and the rest has their planned locations...

    1958 FC-170

took a break and tossed a couple windows in the shop for daylight and excellent air flow. Then set in a furnace since winter was coming. The 140 ft trench from the house to the barn for the gas and upgraded electrical ment alot of shovel time but well worth it. Natural gas and 100 amps...

painted and final assemble the cooling "assembly" The sweet JB Fab triple stick cable shifters showed up and give me a ton of gear choices. Where to mount them in the cab is yet to be decided. I also scored and never use old school fairbanks gated cable shifter for the th350 trans...

side tracked a bit again and decided i needed a goose neck hitch on it but not bed mounted. I happened upon a putnam pull up gooseneck hitch. It was trimmed down to a circle and sufficiently welded to the top of a 1/2 wall i think 10 inch tubing. That is welded down to a pair of thick wall 4x6...

I had been waiting around to find a set of dodge dana 60 single rear wheel front hubs. Why not just get the chevys? because the track width is slight wider on the dodge hubs and it happens to exactly match my rear axle. Plus I can run the vintage mile marker external hubs. The combo...

    1958 FC-170

Then I got started on the interior engine cowl/ removable cover frames. Bounced around to the dual 2.5 exhaust. It is a universal dual kit from summit if i recall but cam with no mufflers so i ordered some stainless internal walker mufflers for a 2001 dodge durango. I want this thing...

    1958 FC-170

I tried round tanks under the bed on each side but have since decided to go with rectangular tanks. More work on fitting the radiator in the cab behind the engine. it is looking promising: The new bracket kit showed up so the alternator moved the drivers side and the AC compressor...

    1958 FC-170

Got a bit off course at this point and picked up a nice Warn M8000 winch for mounting under the front. (edit this mounting configuration will be changed from rear mount to the which hanging from a plate above it all because warn says the current mounting is a no no) The fair lead will come out...

    1958 FC-170

About that time i was getting sick of the crappy dual 8ft florescent so the barn got a nice upgrade. I stuck 12 can lights in the open rafters and stuffed 1,100 lumen leds. Best investment in the shop yet. before: after: Now to make the cab mounts and floors well actually exist...
