Thanks. I think the initial is going to be at Mountain Town Brewing in Mt. Pleasant. That seemed to be the most central location for most of our members. As soon as I have dates solidified I can definitely add them to the calendar. I should have a rough idea by the end of the week for dates.
For those of you who might not have Facebook or are not a part of the group, here is a very early draft for this year's plans. Nothing is set in stone yet so adjustments could be made.
Initial meet up - Mt. Pleasant
Detroit Gambler 500 (possible if we can find a vehicle)
Meetup 1 - NE/W...
I'd say it was 80% dirt and 20% road. Most of it is going to take you through the forest, but there was some deviation to paved dirt roads and regular roads as well. The planned route was for 2 days and we ended up staying in the forest 2.5-3 days. None of it was too complicated and should be...
Okay, I'm a day late on this but here is the route we took in Manistee this past September if anyone is interested. The link should take you to a Google map of the planned route and the attachment should be a direct download GPX file of the route we actually took captured using the Earthmate...
I usually purchase the ORV tags, just to be on the safe side. Most of the dispersed spots are going to require some two track travel. No permits to camp, that I know of.
Got it. Welcome to the group. I think we're planning a group meetup in Jan/Feb to discuss some possible trip ideas. We haven't worked out where yet, but will hopefully have e something set in stone on the coming weeks. Not sure about patches, but one of my top priorities is to work on stickers...
We've got some suggestions for places to visit on the site, not necessarily trails. I've also got a mapped route from this past September I'm going to share here once I'm back home. You can also ask on the group page and you should get some answers.
Not sure about trail names, but I did map the route we ended up taking. I also pre-mapped some of it before going. I'd be happy to share them with you.
Glad you liked them. They are not technical at all. We only had one issue and it's kind of embarrassing, but we couldn't cross a small little creek that had a high bank because my front bumper was too low and getting me caught (I drive the suburban). Other than some pinstripes nothing stood in...
Got it and approved. I think Michigan ends up being a dark horse. We might not have the hardcore trail systems like other states (although we do have good ones) we certainly have plenty of places to see and visit. That was our intent, to not just promote overlanding in the state but also all of...
I have a design worked up and did a short order to test them, just haven't had the chance to get a bunch printed. It's on my to-do list for the coming year [emoji3].

Absolutely. If it would help we also have a website ( www.michiganoverland.com) we can easily add an events calendar to.

If anyone is interested a overland Facebook group was started specifically for Michigan a little while back ( https://m.facebook.com/groups/1544818842449644?ref=bookmarks ). It's relatively young, but we are tying to organize some meetups and group trips for the coming year.

Manistee has a pretty extensive and good beginner trail system. Nothing too technical or too small. We ran a two full size vehicles through there this past September with no issue.
