I’m going to give the 8 a try under a very controlled situation at home just to see how it goes. Luckily if it fails it’ll be the rope and not the chain that I’m actually using to winch on so safety wise I feel good about that. Still need to do some research on the bends tho as @bgenlvtex mentions.
Yeah, its the ecoboost. Eventually I will relocate my intercooler and get a winch and winch bumper. I'm going to try and use a Rescue 8. We use these at work, not sure why I didn't think of it sooner. They are rated to 10K lbs and used in rope rescue and mountaineering. The onl;y unkmnown is how...
All very good ideas. I'm looking at that X-tract thing. $100 is kinda spendy though. Sure would be easier if my intercooler didn't prohibit an actual winch.:confounded:
I am looking for recommendations on how to shorten synthetic winch line. I have a hi-lift and winch kit and know how to use it. Instead of carrying a ton of chain I purchased 80’ of synthetic winch line in case my anchor is a distance away. I have 15’ of 3/8” chain that I attach to winch line...
Trying to figure out a trip for around July 8-15. Initially was hoping to do the Plumas BDT but I'm concerned about the snow level as well as water crossings. So, I started looking at the Shasta-Trinity NF but looks like Tamarack Lake may still have snow as well. Anybody been out and about in...
I'm going to hit the Shasta-Trinity NF discovery trail in early/mid July. Looking like the Sierra is going to be out of the picture until late summer. Heard that HWY 108 wont be plowed until late July, there's still 11' of snow at the Leavitt Lake turn off!
I wear a headset in my work vehicle and can hear sirens pretty well. I find that wearing them in hot weather with no AC, I assume with top down there won’t be AC on, they get uncomfortable after a bit. Also, if they don’t fit your head well like some cheaper one’s available they are very...
Flood watches are already starting to pop up with advisories for water crossings. I saw else where that the Central Sierra have twice the SWE than all the reservoirs in the area can hold.
So typically we try to do a week or so trip in June before fire season starts to pick up. We try to bar our routes around water when we travel with the boys, 10 & 12, so they’re entertained. With the snow pack this year I’m wondering how planning a trip is going to be. Water crossed gs in years...
I have 2 Renogy 100watt solar panels with 8 mounting brackets. Been on my truck 2 years this May. They’ve worked great and in excellent condition. Going in a different direction so getting rid of these. $175 for everything...
Looking to do a quick 2 day trip out to New Idria/Clear Creek. I’m in Monterey so it’s pretty close. Wondering if anyone has GPX files of where they’ve been and care to share. Curious about the recent storms and if the area is even accessible.
Super helpful guys! My Redarc controller switches between using my alternator while driving then switches automatically to solar when parked. I’m in California and our travels have been/probably will remain in the West during spring/summer/fall so typically sun is not an issue, tree cover can be...
Thinking of changing my solar setup from roof mounted hard panels to hood mounted soft panel to help with MPG. Currently running 2x100 watt panel to a 100AH AGM battery with a Redarc controller. I have a ICECO 45L dual zone fridge, led lights and that’s it. Fridge uses about 10watts per hour, or...
