Wel set up base camp to try and summit Mt Saint helens, weather was crap still had a mile to the summit with 2000 ft vertical gain left to go visibility was 15ft and had rain, sleet and snow. Turned around hauled ass back down and enjoyed the comfort of the tent

You going positive offset or negative? More negative offset will push the tires outside further causing more rub to the out side of the fenders. A positive will pull them in closer causing frame rub. If he goes with a wider tire a negative offset will keep the tire from rubbing suspension...
I would recommend doing a solid axle swap. Less parts to break. The only way you will get away with tires not rubbing is trimming that seam. Jeeps have the same issue. But I guess it all depends on what kind of roads or trails you will be running. I would go with a smaller wheel size like...

My smittybilt RTT came with some led lighting. The current power supply is a cigarette plug adapter. My question is should I hard wire it in or just make a new external plug for it to plug into?
Yes, I love working on it. That way I know what's been done to it and how to fix it if it breaks. Replaced the transmission a month ago. Also had to upgrade my locking hubs
