Would you say the trade off between chains and studded tires is primarily the hassle of putting the chains on an off then?

Joining this thread because I have something similar planned for February/March 2024. Webasto is planned. I heard about studding your own tires, is that recommended? Sounds like a lot of work? And from what latitude is this allowed or needed?

I own the Tread Overland edition, and when it works it's great.. Downside is that it locks up multiple times a day, and is nearly impossible to reliably restart to get working again. Tried getting into contact with Garmin support, but that hasn't been helpful yet..
