So we finally made the trip, and back. As mentioned in previous post, I am glad I rented a Jeep and did Ophir pass and last dollar road. Yes, after doing last dollar I did feel like my F250 would be up for it, maybe next time.......
But as for Ophir pass, soooo much traffic. My truck would of...
Hey guys this is what I have going on so far with the pickup. The biggest hurdle I had with how I wanted this configuration was finding bed racks that I didn't have to drill in to the new cover or my truck bed. I did find one rack system, KB voodoo, but its design seemed to be lacking in...
@OkieMizzou Are you concerned if it will be too hot in Big Bend at that time? I've on been there in November for a day trip. I'm wanting to go soon as well and I'm already concerned it'll be too hot, at least hot enough to be unpleasant in the afternoons.
@Jeepsies Sorry your question feel on deaf ears. Hopefully my reply doesn't. How was the trip? I plan to make this once I get my RTT for my pickup. It'll be a maiden voyage of sorts for me. Which sites did yall visit and overnight camp at? Any pictures? Is black gap road intense? Unfortunately...
Yeah 10-4. My biggest concern is getting pigeonholed on a trail and have to back out or down a precarious trail. Next would be having a breakdown, but yeah, trying to stick to easy/mild trails should help avoid being hard on the pickup.
@JDGreens @KonzaLander Thanks a lot for the replies and information. Were this trip to happen, I'd be driving in from Texas in my '17 F250 FX4. The mods are mild at best, level kit, 37" falken MTs, diamondback cover, future RTT. I have little "overlanding" experience, so I'm looking for trails...
@KonzaLander This is great! Exactly the kinda information I'm looking for! Is this area in the two Colorado trails books "Guide to Colorado backroads" and "4wd Adventures:Colorado" ?
Hey guys looks like I may have to make a few changes to this years trip. With everything going on July 19th-24th was our only time frame to go to Colorado and experience the loop and surrounding forests/parks. I recently discovered that the FJ summit is taking place that weekend, in that that...
Hey guys looking for some feedback on the routes I can take that would allow me to do all of the Alpine Loop. Also looking to do some dispersed camping a few days throughout. I'm very new to this and i haven't done any kind of offroading trip in my pickup yet, much less any stand alone camping...
Oh ok, I'm still not familiar with what to expect. But from what I can gather, if the weather is right I can make it in my truck. Did you do any camping on the loop?
Ajwcotton,
What portions of the Alpine Loop did you run in that high country? I have a 17 F250 FX4, 2.5" level and 37" tires and I'm trying to find places I know I can go and camp. I'm coming all the way from Texas so planning as much as possible.
Mommymissle, did you go on your trip? How was it? Particularly the SW Colorado portion. I have a full size pickup(2017 f250) and I'm looking to do some trails on the Alpine Loop this summer. Would love to hear some feedback on navigating through that. Thanks!
