I just bought my first outback this past weekend. 2023 Onyx as well!

I would go with a 2m/70cm. I have a UV5R and a FT-60R. I think I’ll do the trunk mount with an all weather cap like you said. Compromise with the wife lol

I’ll have to try that last option as an easy start lol. I know the reddish knob road well enough

I didn’t know there was more than one way up there.

Question for the group. I live about 30 miles from Flagpole Knob. For those that have done it, do you think a stock Subaru Outback could handle it? I’ve never been up there before but I’ve heard about people loving the trip up there.

Her biggest thing is having an antenna on the car lol. A had a seat rail mount before and it got in her way a lot so that’s another reason she’s against it. And if they’re in the car I don’t even turn it on usually. But for when I’m in the mountains outside cell range or doing special event...

I always prewire power and stuff and try to run it under things. And stowing a mag mount under a seat until needed I’d never thought of! So that’s a really good idea. A phone mag mount would be a good idea too since that can easily be taken off and put in the glove compartment when everyone’s in...
