While at Overland Expo West, we asked some fellow long term overlanders what they consider to be the worst and best parts of their overlanding lifestyle. This is what they had to say:
Lets hear your opinion. Best and worst part of overlanding?
I'm getting excited for sure. I've heard so much about it. I think it's going to be a great time and a great opportunity to learn from other people.
Good call on the business cards. I designed and ordered some stickers, but forgot to do the cards.
Well, if you don't make it out to west, then...
Are you going to Expo west?
We got "traveler passes" and will be going for the first time this year. We said we would be willing to do any talks or round tables that they wanted us for, but we didn't get any response on that front. I wouldn't be surprised if they already had everyone they needed...
That is really cool to hear. We try our best to give an honest representation of what we do and hope that it is entertaining and useful to people.
It's encouraging that an experienced traveler like yourself found them enjoyable and helpful.
Hi all. I just released a video about my wife and I's experience crossing the Mexico Belize border with our truck and our dog. Most of our videos are more story telling, but since many travelers are concerned with border crossings I tried to make this one a bit more informative while still...
Hi all. My wife and I filmed a series of interviews with overlanders we met while traveling through Mexico and Central America and we just started releasing them on youtube. Our goal with this project is to answer some of the questions we received about how and why we went long term overlanding...
If they were still posting pics from that one time in the Alabama hills 2 years ago then they wouldn't be out there crowding up your favorite trail or campsite and it probably wouldn't bother you, but they are out there having their own adventures and hopefully learning along the way. They have...
I've been researching stats and narrowing down my list of potential build platforms for a global expedition vehicle. I plan to do a major time consuming build and would really like to pick the right platform for my needs.
A 1997/98 Dodge Ram 2500 with Cummins 6bt 12 valve and manual...
Here's a few from last years travels:
Sunrise on the Mojave Trail
Swimming with dolphins in Honduras
White faced monkey in Costa Rica
Sloth in Costa Rica
camp sunrise in Nicaragua
Moray in Beliz
Belize river seen
waterfall canyon in Mexico
Hiking Pico de Orizaba, Mexico...
The Subaru can be taken anywhere if you are willing to push it, but it would be a lot easier to get there in the 4runner.
It depends what appeals to you.
The Subaru would offer more excitement and challenge on mild off-roading trails. Meanwhile, if your goal is just to get to locations that...
cool build. Looks like you had a successful shakedown too.
Are you happy with it so far? anything you wish you would have done different yet?
I am in the planning phase of my next build. Just finished a Mexico/Central America tour with my first camper and have lots of things to change after 1.5...
I use a 150Ah auxiliary battery bank that is charged by the vehicle when driving and charged by 300W solar panels when at camp.
One precaution that I will add is to consider the environment you will be using your setup and compare it to the environment of the people giving you advise.
In Baja...
1995 Toyota T100 4x4 manual transmission
Bought it for $2500, spent 7 weeks building the camper/doing maintenance, then drove it to Panama and back along with my wife and dog.
I chose this truck for initial cost, reliability reputation, parts availability in Latin America, size, stock 4x4...
We made a review video about our SnoMaster 66L fridge/freezer.
I was getting some questions about it and figured a video was probably the best way for me to answer those questions since I am an awful writer.
The short answer is YES we like it. I'm so glad my wife insisted on us upgrading from...
Thanks. The reason I ask about the different vehicles is because the T100 is kind of a mix of all these different parts.
The Hilux for example, shares the same independent front suspension and steering components as the T100.
And I know vehicles sux as the Prado, tacoma, tundra, and 4runner...
Thanks VCexpedition.
I have had good luck with the truck through Mexico and Central America, which is what I bought it for. I like the size and knew I could get parts in those areas.
I am not particularly worried about the truck having any issues, its just that this trip I am planning will...
