    "Tier 1" Camping Chairs

We use the cheapest expanding chair that REI makes. They're the most compact and easiest to deploy of the chairs I've seen. They are also the most comfortable. We tried them all, the smallest and cheapest was the best option for us. -M

    “Overland” trailer use and ideas.

I'm out west, but we take our trailer into sand. All the same sand consideration as normal, but more exaggerated. Air down and keep your momentum, have a backup plan. Out trailer isn't particularly heavy.

We have an F150 with Max Tow as well. A Full Size Truck is less concerned with an extra hundred pounds of wood. But we don't use that truck for adventures too often. -M

    Tacoma or 4Runner?

I have a 1999 4Runner and for years that worked well for our Family of 4. Last year I got a 2017 Tacoma and the increase in cargo space has been a big benefit to us. -M

I didn't know Jeeps had that problem too. But I guess it stands to reason. Tacomas are a lot worse with this than I thought. -M

DIY Light Weight Drawer System / Sleeping Platform

"I bought this pickup truck because I needed more space than an SUV," is what you might have heard me say about a year ago when I bought a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, Short bed TRD Off-Road. (DCLB TRDOR). And that's a good reason to get a midsize pickup instead of an SUV like a 4Runner...

DIY 4x4 Ambulance Overland Camper: Ford F-550

RV Life My grandfather lived in Louisiana and for a little while he had a dolphin. One summer he drove it out to where we lived in Michegan and took us all on a big road trip. Of course, I mean the Toyota based cab over recreational vehicle, not the marine mammal. And while that RV was...

    Minimalist Overlander: 2016 Ford Expedition

In 1996 Ford killed off the last bronco. The full size, two-door beast we'd loved since the seventies, was gone. It took 24 years for them to bring it back. But in 1997 they launched the Expedition, a full-size, 4 door SUV following on from the wildly popular Explorer and taking the next step in...

    An Argument FOR Root-TopTents

I am of two minds on the matter, but having had some experience with Roof-Top tents this last summer, I have some conclusions about the places where they are better. Note: That my opinions are as a dad who has to set up camp for 4 people, two of whom are not helping, or getting in the way...

Forget everything you think you know about the Nissan Frontier

Was out at Moon Rocks and saw this Frontier Wheeling hard! The guy said he has suspension parts and bumpers on order and he recently got rear-ended, so the damage was inconsequential. I was impressed with how there's nothing hanging down below the frame rails to get damaged, unlike my Tacoma.

An argument against Roof Top Tents

You're not wrong, but my intention was not to treat this as fact about RTTs. I myself am of two minds on the matter. I have two RTTs and use them, but also hat setting them up and climbing up in them. But they are convenient and practical at times. -M

An argument against Roof Top Tents

The RTT in the video is mine not Harry's. I like it, but only because it's on a vehicle that isn't my daily driver. I actually shot a video when we shot that one about reasons I like an RTT. I definitely have a love/hate deal with them. Although I used it this weekend on a solo trip to central...
