Hello, I am a retired Evangelical Christian worker, pastor, and truck-driver (Don't worry--I won't shove my faith down your throat--but feel free to ask me about it).
I live year-round just north of Lloydminster, Sk. in a cabin in Sandy Beach Regional Park with my wife, Debbie, and our 2 long-coated German Shepherds (which overland with us), and three cats (which do not overland, although one sneaks into the 4Runner regularly). We tow a Gnome Home Off-road Teardrop Trailer (The Yukon Model--built in Sherwood Park, AB) and it will go anywhere the 4Runner goes. Last year one of our sons in his Tacoma (We have 12 grown children; the joke is that my wife has 13 children--women get that joke; men typically scratch their heads when I tell it.) introduced us to the Waiparous Wilderness region of Alberta, the Ghost River, and we even conquered Lost Knife Trail (sans the Teardrop Trailer). We LOVE our extremely-capable and comfortable 4Runner. Having the big dogs, we tend to wild camp so we all can have the freedom that organized private, provincial, state, and national parks do not afford. Also we don't have to reserve camping spots months ahead of time. We enjoy sitting around a campfire with others and meeting new people. I am itching to discover more off-road trails in Alberta that can be done on a weekend (or longer). I am also planning trips to Utah (Moab, etc.); Tuktoyaktuk, NWT; and Newfoundland/Labrador. I would certainly welcome the company of more experienced off-roaders when exploring new off-road trails, esp. those of a more technical nature.
