    Baja Caravan?

Yes, SQ is San Quintin. It is heavy farmed, so the roads are slow because of the farming equipment and busses taking folks to and from the fields. Many get upset because you average about 25 miles per hour for about 20 miles. I live in LA and don't care about driving slow anymore. I love the...

    Baja Caravan?

Check FB's Talk Baja and Baja Caravans. There a lot of people on both. Mexicali is the most popular entrance taking 5 south, it is faster and less mesa driving. Many like is as you bypass SQ and all the town traffic. Ensenada has a big road project and is also slow to get through.

Can I leave Mexico for a few days without my vehicle?

By law if you leave your ride using a FMM it is consider abandon. Why would a tourist leave the their ride if a tourist? I have done it plenty of times. It's the laws but it's mostly OK.

Im new to Overlanding. Here is a list of gear I am using.

For me Overlanding isn't about stuff it's about exploring and going new places. I traveled all over Baja in a 2 wheel sedan for years. My guess you are traveling for weekends and multi-day trips, sleeping in the back. If you trust your ride take it out and use it. Everything is a trade-off in...

    Any Hunters Among Us

I hunted up to 50years old, upland game, waterfowl, dear, elk, antelope, and whatever. I had a shoulder rebuilt and I gave up shooting because of the pain. I do miss it. Now I trade elk for tuna and yellow with my nephew for my game fix.

    Build ideas

I have a progressive leaf springs on my 3/4 dodge, best investment ever. I went from 3 to 10 Deaver springs without changing the max load, it rides empty very well. Swapped out the stock shocks for 2.5 fox with reservoirs. I run 315 tires and no lift, I can get most anywhere I want, I don't go...

I see those surfing in Baja/ Mexico a lot. Aussies fly over grab one and live out of them for months. They get remote. I hope you are having fun with it.

    Upcoming Trip- Vehicle Advice

I would drive what you own. I drove a Plymouth Reliant all over Baja for years. Dirt roads and rocks were just part of it. You can drive Forest Service roads with your BMW. Second choice would be rent, be aware most rentals have GPS and tracking unit on them. Also I would go with a Ice-chest...

Are Canvas Tents Suitable for Overlanding?

James D. Smith, I see you are from Virgin Islands, I think of rain. Canvas tents need to be stored dry, I have found they will mildew easily if stored wet. They are great otherwise. There is also a fashion side of tents, Oztent, Gezelle, are todays popular items. I used a Springbar that I...
