Yes "overlanding" has gone overboard with gear mania... As others have pointed out... this is not the same as killing itself, or dying out. Many hobbies have gone through the gear mania craze. ALL that is really needed is a reliable 4x4 (that CAN include a subaru forester (or even a motorcycle)...

I have to disagree with Reaver. Your cheapest trailer option is a flatbed utility trailer with modifications to the suspension to bring it up to a ride height similar to your trucks. Following that would be a mil surplus. The smittybilt trailers are not bad, but a simple DIY is often a better...

Welcome to OB Bev... in some ways I am the same as I do more camping from the truck to simply be close to my destination whether hunting, hiking, or canoeing... though I find myself wanting more and more to take the truck out camping just to find a trail somewhere and take it camping.

Argentine ants??? Had not heard of them... When I lived in Alabama in the 90s the fire ants where a pain (literally)... We quit gardening because the ants would march up the hoe and attack. <LOL> (fresh double stick tape wrapped around the handle helps with those buggers as I later learned)...

No... I did not say spraying bear spray on the foliage, I specified that I use pepper spray, though zombie cat makes good arguments against... There is a difference between pepper spray and bear spray... (Primarily in the concentrations used... 2% vs 10% is a significant difference) Chlorine...
