A newbie in overlanding and want to know more. i like the mix of driving to nowhere and camping. the adventurous nature of this past time is enticing.
reason for my mercedes GL, after owning a land rover discovery 2, and a LX 470, i got tired of the poor MPG. I started to look for a diesel SUV and could not find one except for my GL320 CDI. Since i live in Commifornia, I did not have the option to buy it here. So I waited for used ones to be available in other states. I found one in Arizona and flew out and bought it and drove it back.
in my other SUV's mentioned above, I got around 300-350 (12-15mpg) on a full tank of gas (on a good week). with my diesel GL, I range form 450-680 (19-26MPG) on a full tank.
I know it won't go on the Rubicon, but that's not my purpose, just want to go on fire roads and roads that are not technical. I think the GL has enough clearance to do that. though it does not have all the capabilities as most 4x4, it makes up for some of it with it's low end torque and anti slip.
I also want to learn from the people here and absorb everyone's knowledge.
