If you have a camp oven (which normally comes with a canvas bag and if not I highly recommend you get one) and its small enough just place the skillet into the camp oven. That's what I do. Keep all the cast iron pans and pots together in the same canvas bag! :)

No it doesn't smell at all when you burn and its better for the environment rather than just burying it or throwing it at the tip. Items I take with me are certain plastics and metal cans which I take back to a recycling centre. When burning I don't do it all at once either. We just throw stuff...

If you are able to have a fire pit going at your camp site you could burn most of your rubbish to minimise what you end up having to carry with you. We do this often in places where you are allowed to have a fire pit and you would be surprised at what material you can burn to ash resulting in...
