Rally Point Details:
This will involve more pavement than our typical Rally Point adventures, but if you are a history buff, enjoy exploring, and want a family friendly adventure- this may be your ticket! I have links for all the events and locations in the itinerary below. They will tell you about fees, campgrounds, and scheduling. You will need to set these up yourself. Schedule early, as some campgrounds may book up quickly for the summer!
We plan on leaving Coeur d’Alene from the Sherman Avenue Mobil 1 station at 8:00a.m. on July 19th. If you are coming from another location, you are welcome to join us at our fist stop, the Daly Mansion at Noon (1:00 P.M Mountain time). The Daly mansion has tours at regular intervals and is definitely worth a visit.
We will then proceed to Darby Logger Days. This is an old-fashioned small community event with axe throwing, lumberjack climbing, and sawing events. Always good food and plenty to do!
Between Darby and Wisdom is the Big Hole National Battlefield. This is a great stop and gives great context to the history of Montana.
I plan on staying in a cabin Friday night at Elkhorn hot springs, which is north of Bannack Ghost town which will be visited the next morning. We will also visit Virginia City, Nevada City, and Cable ghost towns on Saturday. Cable is typically closed to visitors, but I’m going to see if I can pull some strings and get access for our group!
Saturday night we will be camping at Phillipsburg Bay campground on Georgetown Lake. This will be ideal, as I’m expecting a warm July and Georgetown Lake can only be characterized as refreshingly cold! We will then visit Granite and garnet ghost towns on Sunday before going our separate ways to return home.
Hope to see you then!
