Rally Point Details:

ADVENTURE IS NECESSARY

The Central California Meet-Up crew is heading to the Lost Coast to tackle a weekend trip to Usal Beach campgrounds, then north via Usal RD to Wailaki campground. Both nights will be at campgrounds but with limited to no services like water and decent bathrooms. Be prepared to be self sufficient for 3 days for food and water.

The drive up Hwy 1 is amazing just south of the Usal Road turn off. Usal Rd from Hwy 1 takes about 45 minutes to get down to the campground. Usal Rd is a rough dirt road at parts so your vehicle needs to be capable to travel a possibly rutted & muddy forest road. On Saturday we will drive from Usal Beach campground to Wailaki Campground which is about 24 miles and the estimated drive time with a group is about 4 hours. Sunday we will visit Shelter Cove and the Lighthouse there, and head home. We could opt for a visit to Glass Beach which is just north of a Fort Bragg as we head south and home.

The Sinkyone Wilderness State Park is on our way Saturday and there’s a Ranger Station we will visit if we can. The road was washed out this winter and I don’t know the estimated repair time table. If we get lucky the Elk will still be coming down in the mornings at Usal Beach.
