Borrego Exploration

Now that the temperatures are dropping in the desert it is time to go exploring!!! Borrego holds a multitude of terrains and sites to see (which in all honesty will take far more then a weekend to explore). To begin ticking areas off of my bucket list I figuresd I would post an event so that others cane share in the experience. This event will be two days (Friday and Saturday) and we are going to run Fish Creek and explore the fingers (both by rig and by foot as there are slot canyons) as time will allow. We will find a camp spot in the area for Friday night. Saturday morning we will head over towards the Salton Sea and explore the abandoned navy base. At the end of the day we will head to Carlee's for a well deserved dive bar meal and refreshments before going our separate ways.

Rally Point Details:

This trip will hold a variety of terrain. To begin with on Friday we will be in a wash with some rock obstacles. Day two we will be in sand. The terrain of Fish Creek is rated as easy, but that of course is going to vary depending on the vehicle you are driving :) To get a good idea of fish creek please see the following video by our own members Kyle and Kari Fink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=16&v=o-EuVjgjVKk

To get an idea of what the abandoned naval base holds please look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=35&v=Wal44j1wtpQ

My wife and I will be driving out Thursday night and camping of of Sin Nombre Canyon Rd. If anyone wants to joint us for a night of camping on Thursday we can meet at Christmas Circle and then caravan out there. Otherwise we will be meeting Friday morning at 10:00am to start our exploration. We will head over towards Diablos Drop Off and enter into Fish Creek Wash. I am posting the gpx coordinate to the camp site for Thursday night as the starting point for this adventure. I am also uploading the GPX file for the entire route of fish creek. A couple of members have provided me with info about the areas we are going. Thanks to Yeti-X both for the promo pic I uploaded for this event and his insights. He advised that a 4runner with a little bigger tire can get through all of what we would be trying to navigate. I will be posting more details as I get an idea of the interest and vehicles that people will be driving. If anyone has questions please post them up. Here is to the start of a new season of adventuring in Borrego!!!!
