Mojave Road GPS/GIS mapping, October 24-27

Drive the Mojave Road and document all the tracks that weave off the main trail and identify all turnouts so that they can either make them bigger or add more to eliminate the weaving tracks. This would still be a multi-day event with at least three teams. I would envision each team hopscotching their way along a section of the road. Probably three groups of five or six rigs.

Rally Point Details:

From the Mojave National Preserve;
"Mojave road GPS/GIS mapping. We can provide the mojave road route GIS file or similar. Mojave road within the preserve would be driven and every turn out and or point where incursions are occuring (where people drive off the route). Those locations are sometimes marked with fiberglass brown markers (carsonites) with decals that say "no motorized vehicles". We don't have those incursions mapped. Data collectors would need to be able to differentiate between "turnouts" and "incursions". If we could do a set of points for each turn out to show its general size that would be better. Map all sections of braided trail along mojave rd - especially between seventeen mile point and soda lake.
With all the turnouts mapped and illegal off shoots fully mapped we can then make better management decisions. For example, do we want to increase the size of particular turnouts? The data would also help us to do the necessary "paperwork" to allow us to line turnouts with boulders to prevent trampling and from those areas growing in size."

The detailed plan for this project will be emailed around October 11.
