Rally Point Details:
Day One Meet up at Lochan na Lairige ( 56.53888, -4.285547) nestled between Loch Tay and Glen Lyon. This is off grid in a mountain location with stunning views across Loch Tay and for those who enjoy a bit of Munro Bagging you have Ben Lawers and 3 more Munros overlooking this great camp spot.
Day Two we will pack up and head off through one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland Glen Lyon with a chance to visit the 5000 Year Old Fortingale Yew on our way round to Loch Rannoch for a lochside camp (56.69243, -4.39623) and chance for a bit of paddle boarding, swimming and a bbq.
Note Mobile Phone Signal is spotty at best so come prepared. There are shops in Killin close by on route for supplies and a chance to visit the Falls Of Dochart and fuel can be found at at Lix Toll (56.44097, -4.35888) if coming from the south and West or at the Jet Station (56.62025, -3.86283) in Aberfeldy if coming from the North and East.
Notes:
1/. The road to camp 1 is one of the highest roads in Scotland at just under 2000 feet.
2/.The Fortingall Yew is at the geographical heart of Scotland and stands within Fortingall churchyard. It is thought to be between 3,000 and 9,000 years old and has connections to early Christianity in Scotland. It is also believed to be one of the oldest living things in Europe.
3/. Tummel Bridge - This original bridge (now pedestrian only) was built by General Wade in 1730.
History Culture and my sparking repartee and wit, what more could you ask for?
