Rally Point Details:

Mojave National Preserve Trail Guardian April 23, 2022

In conjunction with the National Park Service (NPS) and the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) we will be taking on several projects. All of these projects help the Park in some way or another, with the goal of restoring or maintaining historic resources. MDLT purchases properties and gets them to a state of readiness, then deeds the property to NPS. This helps preserve the historic nature of the Mojave, but will also provide us with future camping spots.

NPS projects;
Mike Keith and crew will put a roof on the early 1900s barn at Kessler Ranch.
A small group will help water newly planted Joshua Trees within the Cima Dome fire area.

MDLT projects;
We will finish cleaning up the ranch that we worked on in November, all the materials will be stacked at a staging place and removed later.
Two other new properties also need to be picked up and the material staged for future removal.

For the properties owned by MDLT at this time, but not yet donated to the Park Service, NPS can no longer support us with staff, dumpsters, stake bed pickups, etc. This is why the material will be staged on site for later removal.

Base Camp will be at the Thomas Ranch once again. It is centrally located and will hold a large number of members. Park Archaeologist Dave Nichols might be able to give a talk with powerpoint Saturday evening of the event.

Exact details of the event will be messaged once the RSVP limit is reached.

For the future - A project that we hoped would happen on this trip - installing trail signs on the Eastern Mojave Heritage Trail - is currently on hold. Differences between BLM, NPS and the Mojave Desert Heritage and Cultural Society at Goff’s have slowed this project to a crawl. This will be a great project because it involves several days on the trail.
