NOTICE: Stay abreast of the latest info and forum discussion for this event by following the forum thread here: https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/4th-annual-june-jam-in-buena-vista-co.41928/ This is an informal, family-friendly event based around dispersed camping and informal group runs near Buena Vista, Colorado. Our casual atmosphere has worked well for us the past few years, so let's do it again! More details to follow, but here's the rough draft. Make sure to subscribe and follow updates on the discussion forum linked above.
Location:
Base camp will be off of San Isabel National Forest FSR 375C in the Fourmile Recreation Area. This is a first-come dispersed camping area, so we'll try to hold a large central camping/gathering area but there are other dispersed camping sites very close by (within walking distance) if this fills up. This is a very popular and busy recreation area that is the subject of a proposed management plan, so please be model overlanding ambassadors and be respectful and courteous as we do not have reserved or exclusive use of the area.
Tread Lightly:
This is a quasi-organized event and we'll have roughly scheduled departure times for runs and other activities, but participation is on your own and at your own risk. We're all just volunteers putting together a non-OB event but using this platform to organize amongst like-minded overlanders. We'll be keeping runs small in size to minimize our impact to other users of this recreation area; we should have plenty of options but if a run gets too big we may split up into smaller groups. Runs will be announced and loose sign-up options will be available closer to the event. See below regarding logistics, but otherwise pack it in/pack out more than you brought, don't build new fire rings (consider that anything but gas-powered fires may be prohibited depending on fire restrictions), and generally be a good steward of this area with your camping habits. Hate to harp on this, but it needs to be said.
Logistics:
This is a dispersed camping area, which means no amenities and a natural setting. Hey - it's overlanding! This means no power, water, septic, trash service, etc. Bring what you need, and pack it back out. It's only about a ten minute run into town for anything you need or want, but plan ahead for water, meals, charging your gadgets, etc. Although it is open National Forest, we request that you bring a means of handling human waste responsibly in order to go easy on this very busy recreational area. No land mines - this includes the four-legged depositors!
Schedule:
Arrive to camp anytime as this is non-organized dispersed camping (several of us will be there by Tuesday or Wednesday)...
