General Patton’s Training Center – Overland Trip

We plan on exploring the following locations:

• Camp Iron Mountain / Camp Granite / Rice AFB / Midland Ghost Town
• Camp Coxcomb / Palen Pass Rd where Patton did a lot of tank training.
• Old bunker and check out the fox holes, Black Jack Mine & Tunnel.

Meeting place, Date and time: January 16^th 2021 at 8:30am

8:00 am – General Patton Museum / Chevron at 62450 Chiriaco Rd, Chiriaco Summit, CA

9:00 am – Hit the trail to Camp Coxcomb

Day 1 – Will start by touring General Patton Museum. If you have never been here before, it’s worth the tour. Then at 9:00am, will hit the trail to Camp Coxcomb then to Palen Pass Road. Palen Pass has a lot of cool things to see. Will stop at Patton training cabin for lunch. You’ll see the old bombing fields, fox holes, an old bunker and a few old mines. The trail is a bit rough and bumping, but fun. Some parts might be challenging too, but not too back. Will camp at Midland Ghost Town.

Day 2 – Plan on checking out Camp Granite, Rice AFB, then to Camp Iron Mountain to check out the old chapels.

What do bring:

• Extra water, running at higher elevations you need to drink lots of water.
• Food, cooking stove, 1 bundles of fire wood (one for each day).
• Jeep/Truck in good working order
• HAM Radio – Channel 146.450
• 33” tires minimum.
• Full size spare tire, tools and first aid kit.
• High lift jack.
• Bring 10 extra gallons of fuel.
• Tent, sleeping bag and warm clothes.
