Prewitt Ridge and The Indians area of Big Sur

Welcome to the first trip for the Tri-Valley area meet up! This trip has limited space due to the camping area of Prewitt Ridge on Friday night. The views are stunning and dramatic sitting up 3000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. However these camping sites are scattered around with only a few locations that can hold multiple rigs. It is dispersed camping with a requirement to leave it better than we find it, including the requirement to pack out human waste.

Saturday night dispersed camping in The Indians area

Rally Point Details:

The road in has some steep sections, high clearance and 4 wheel drive required. We will fuel up in the south Monterrey/Big Sur area, but bring an additional 50 miles of fuel. Plan for weather so rainflys on tents and appropriate clothing. Remember there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing decisions.

We will enter Los Burros Rd off Hwy 1 at Treebones Resort and travel about 1.5 hours north to Prewitt Ridge. Not the most direct way but the most fun way! From there we will head over to our junction by Fort Hunter Ligget and lunch at Mission San Antonio de Padua. From there we travel up to Indian Hills and camp.

Airing down is recommended for comfort and traction, but we will alternate dirt and pavement so there will be a couple times to air down and up. Bring water and food to provide for your own needs along the trip.
