Hello,
This may seem like a strange question, but I was wondering how much support is required for the external jerry can shelves/holders? And, how are they installed?
I'm assuming you take the back paneling off and have a support plate inside that gets bolted through the skin of the door in order to provide more support. Is this the case, or are they entirely bolted on from the outside?
I've been toying with the idea of doing something on my vehicle to mount some extra fuel carriers. Not sure if I'd do something for a rotopax or jerry can, or perhaps something else. Odds are I probably won't do anything to my current vehicle. The Explorer has a power lift gate and I don't know how much weight it can actually support when opening/closing, or when it would detect the extra weight and shut off for safety. Still, I'd like to learn how the weight is distributed and supported on areas that are typically (to me at least) made with fairly thin sheet metal for some mounting ideas for a trailer I'm thinking of or a different rig.
Thanks
