I am looking to possibly trade vehicles soon and I’m thinking of going to the Volkswagen Atlas SE 4 Motion. I don’t need something to handle major trails. I’m doing mostly dirt roads, small township roads, farm paths and fields. Looking online, I can buy an affordable lift/leveling kit to get it some more ground clearance. Put some decent A/T tires under it and it should be capable enough for my needs.

I’m open to suggestions, but looking for an SUV that will handle 3 car seats and enough towing capacity for a small trailer and a couple of ATV’s as I use them for work from time to time. Any other vehicles I should look at? I really like the Atlas for the versatility of the third row for added car seat room and storage room if I need it.

Might have a hard time getting recommendations for this segment. I'd just look at and drive everything only vehicle that I have driven in this class is the Highlander. Since I don't have any experience with the Atlas no way that I could advise otherwise. I know Subaru also just released Ascent which I'd assume is also in this class. Good luck!

I love my tahoe... For what you are looking for, your Tahoe would not need to be like mine... Even stock it would easily do what you are looking for. Just getting rid of a little plastic up front and maybe a mild lift or leveling kit to get slightly bigger tires.

With a v-8 motor it will have an easier time pulling plus inside you would have more room. One of the things I look at in a rig is cargo / people room vs MPG. My Tahoe gets the same or better MPG than most smaller 4x4's is more comfortable and pretty cheap on maintenance too. It gives up some performance on the crazier trails... But I just avoid them plus I really have no interest in doing most of them..

Take time looking around at what other people are doing with what they have and find something that will do just a little more than what you think you want... Good luck and Happy Trails...
