Today my wife and I were looking at a newer suv for her for the winter. After have excellent luck with a Ford Explorer then a Ford Expedition, our choice will likely be one of the two. But we drove everything, even brands I don’t care for, but while checking out some Jeep Grand Cherokee’s, I ran across a 2015 Overland edition Grand Cherokee. Looking it over, seemed solid. I was intrigued by the ride height adjusting knob and a few other little trinkets. But is this all hype, I currently have a 93 Grand Cherokee all set up how I like it, but I do get distracted by the new shiny from time to time. Does any body in here have one of these newer GC’s and if so, how do you like it. I’m sure I’ll drive my 93 until he wheels fall off, but wow, the new stuff isn’t half bad.

Jeep also has the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that might suit overlanding better with the same suspension as the Overland, but with additional skid plates underneath

The Chrysler curmudgeon speaks..
My son in law just very recently traded in his less than a 2 year old Grand Cherokee. He was lured in with all the bling and gizmology. At first everything worked really well, then? The rig was in the shop for warranty work more than it was being driven. Thankfully, last fall he came to his senses and asked for my unbiased opinion and advice since I had been there and done that with jeeps for nearly 16 years. ( Two Liberties, one a CRD, a Wrangler Sport and a Rubicon). The Toyota stealership made him an offer that was tough to refuse and now he drives a 4runner truck.

Our 2008 Jeep Liberty has been flawless. No problems, just scheduled maintenance and warranty issues. My mother-in-law has a 2014 Grand Cherokee, also no issues. I was looking at the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk too - saw some huge discounting on 2017 models...tempting! I am a Land Rover guy, so I may be discounting things others see as issues :)

I'd be remiss if I didn't give credit where credit is due.. The 04 Rubicon was the 2nd most reliable and trustworthy vehicle I've ever owned through 120,000 miles.. 2nd most reliable only because the front axle universals needed replacing every 50k miles, or so, and all the suspension bushings started wearing out at around 60k miles..
