First off what we have, its a homebuilt 1 ton capacity cargo trailer we built in our garage. At the time it was just me and the wife and it fit what we needed perfectly. The RTT allowed us to move it to either my FJ or her 4Runner if we are on a trip that didn't lend itself to a trailer.

Now we have a 1 year old and right now the situation still works, the 3 of us fit in the tent just fine. In a few years though this won't be the case. Or initial idea is to get/build/convert a tear drop and put our RTT on the top. This would give us essentially 2 rooms, tear drop for us and RTT for him.

For those of you with family's has anyone else done this? I have a friend that runs dual RTTs but I think that is too much. Getting/converting a trailer is either expensive or time consuming and expensive and I like to plan ahead.

If you have any questions about the trailer I should be able to answer also I have a build log here

1st of all, nice trailer & build. IMO staying with trailer give you options coming & going to base camp. You have choices to go to a 3 person XL RTT w\ Annex, another choice is OzTrail OR375 tent or that style. http://www.quantum-overland.com/2016/07/gear-review-oztrail-or375-tent/ Another is a actual offroad tent pop up trailer. Then again if your up to a another build a cargo trailer into a overland trailer, this way it can be personalized to fit what you want. You might want to look at WEEROLL "overland series"

I know I have heard of people using the annex as a room but never seen someone use it as one. That being said we have a foxwing and could potentially get the walls for it, that would be the cheapest viable option for the long run.
