Hi, I have been looking at the various track systems from the OEMs in Toyotoas, etc. I want to set one up in my Silverado. Has anyone done this, if so how, and what did you use. I cannot find any kits designed for the silverados. So thinking there must be a universal kit or maybe the toyota ones would work ? I was also thinking of the roof rack tracks that you would use on a camper shell or tonneau cover to attach rack cross bars, those are essentially t tracks ? Thoughts ? ideas ? suggestions ? My main purpose for this is for attachment of accessories, mounting things like extingusihers, tools, storage , etc.

Thanks

Full month without a reply. Ouch. Better late than never, I suppose.

There are a lot of different systems out there. Each one with their own flavor. For slide lock style systems similar to Toyota/Nissan look up O-Track or L-Track. E-trailer carries a few brands all meant for cargo management on trailers. So they are universal and come in different shapes, lengths, and materials (and as such, different load capacities). Hope it does the trick for you

Thank you. I had seen these but didnt think that they had that versatility, Now I really looked into them that you mentioned it, and they are exactly what I need. They have fittings that allow you to bolt things, such as molle panels and various mounts to the track. Awsome. Thank you

I just got my tacoma a couple weeks ago... prior to that I had intended to get a couple 6' lengths of aircraft style (o-track) for my ranger. As it was an open bed, I would ideally have put 2: 6' lengths on the sides of the bed rail with reinforced backer plates behind the sheet metal. I would have also put a track across the front of the bed at rail level to match the side rails (keep in mind these would have been inside the bed, not on top of the rails), then either attached an additional pair just inside the wheel wells running the full length of the bed, or would have put pieces on either side of the wheel wells at bed level.

I would use e-track and X track with a trailer, but for my truck I much prefer the o-track, if for no other reason, it has nicer aesthetics when not in use in my opinion. but I also believe (perhaps erroneously) that o-track is better at handling load stress from changing angles.

So o-track is what I plan on using for both my truck (I plan on having 2 strips on the bed drawer system deck, and if possible will also use some on my cargo rack) and off road trailer (when I can build one, I plan on using several of the single point or short o-tracks in the storage compartments for securing bags and equipment, and using some (possibly long tracks) on the "roof rack" as well) while e-track is what I plan on using for my flatbed utility trailer (if I ever get an enclosed trailer, I would use a combination of e-track and x-track as they are the same connector system but while it has a lower load capacity, IMO x-track works better on walls)

Update, FInally received my L tracks from Mac's tie downs. Going to install them on each side along the inside of the bed rails. I got the track adapters or mounts that have the bolts so that you can attach anything you want to them. I plan to attach an air compressor and 2.5 gallon air tank along one side so that they will be up out of the way, off the bed floor, essentially in dead space, yet under the tonneau cover so they are protected from the elements. The other side I can mount ? maybe i'll put a shovel, or hi lift jack off that one ? Not sure yet. I'm happy to have finally deceided on a system and have a home to set up an air compressor now.
