I'm building and overland rig out of my 77 dodge power wagon. I found a topper for it and now I would like to plan a kitchen drawer and a place for water and a pull out fridge.. I have an 8 foot bed to work with so there is plenty of real estate.. any help, advice, or knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Looks pretty good! What sort of drawer sliders are you using, got a source? Have they been strong and reliable so far?
thanks. i first saw the price of 60" slides and decided to make my own slides using roller skate bearings and unistrut, but i didn't get them to work all that great, so i ended up biting the bullet and buying some on amazon. they are great slides and very heavy duty, well worth the money. rest of the box is 3/4 plywood. i made two separate boxes because they are very heavy and if i take them out, it is easier to move and store them.

That set up looks nice! Those are the slides I'm looking at too. Great idea.
how are your plans coming? i was thinking about how i would use an 8' bed and one idea would be to make an 8' box and use the 60" slide for a 5' long pull out drawer and the remaining 3' left at the rear of the box could hold a water tank and battery that i could access with a hatch. there are so many ideas and set ups out there its hard to choose. i just try to make things scalable and modular.

I'd second the Pask Makes series of videos for a full length drawers his DIY bearing slides and lock look to be done easily with fairly available tools.

A similar commercial/DIY slide offering would be OpenRail (OpenRail® Linear Rail) with skate bearings and metal V-wheels (Metal V Wheel Kit). This stuff is used for CNC Machines so it slides well and is accurate.

Having built more than a few drawer system now. I've been surprised at how well and how long wood on wood can last. Think dresser drawers made in the 1700's and earlier that saw daily usage still sliding after hundereds of years. But even plywood drawers filled with tools on a plywood box can last many years. Adding some UMHW or HDPE tape can make big heavy drawers slide smooth as silk. (Nylo-Tape Friction-Free Drawer Slide Tape or search "UHMW TAPE" on Amazon)

awesome vids. i saw that one a while back and decided to make my own slides initially. i got the roller skate bearings, 5/16" bolts and threaded inserts and did one box...it looked great and worked until i loaded it and realized that some of my holes were off and therefore my bearings where not all level and one bearing being just a hair too high kicked the slide up and it would jam against the next bearing instead of rolling on it. it was my error and with so many other projects going on at the same time, i got frustrated and just bought the slides. i also used some unistrut and bolted it to the drawer as the rail and the strut wasn't flat and level, either. i know its not made to be flat and level, but i was hoping it would be good enough and it wasn't.

Look at the overland bound YouTube channel. Michael has a current series on building a set for his rig.

Good to know. Amazing how a hair's width can totally throw off an assembly some times.
