Heading to Southern Utah this summer, how bad are the crowds at the National Parks and on the trails around Moab?
Hmm, it seems I answered this somewhere before- there just aren’t many crowds anywhere near Moab in the summer. It’s just way too hot. We go, sometimes twice a year. One year we tried early September, temps were in the triple digits in Devils Kitchen in the Needles District. After only two nights we headed up into the mountains.

Just came back from there (Moab / Canyonlands / Capital Reef / etc). May and October are the best months weather wise. I didn’t encounter too much traffic at all on the Shafer Switchbacks. Disn’t get to Chicken Corners. Camping was busy in Valley of the Gods, a lot of traffic there. However at Temple of the Sun in Capital Reef NP - I was alone with nobody else - it was 16 miles off the highway 24 but the off road trail is very easy.
