Been wrenching on the Wrangler and building the trailer. We are ready to go! Heading out in September and heading to the north west
Before I get any jabs for photos in the driveway rather than on a ridge, I know, this was the final dry run before we go. Be patient, we will get to the dirt, mud, sand and snow.
The build is a 2017 Wrangler proudly named the "War Wagon" and the trailer started with a military M116A3 I found on craigslist.
Key points on the Wrangler are a BLM tranny cooler, TuffStuff 250 amp alternator. Powerstop brakes, Air lift bags, winch, battery isolator, Kenwood 906S stereo with four JBL round speakers and four Focal tweeters.
Let me say: The Hooke Road hood struts to hold your engine hood up are easily installed and are awesome. Also the Hooke Road shelf for the back storage area is equally awesome and built solid. No... I don't work for Hooke Road!
Details on the trailer
Like I said, started with a military M116A3 trailer. The photo with my white YJ is the raw trailer
Had an aluminum box built to mount to the trailer, the box has a top rack for storage, and then a top platform for the tent. I went with a Body Armor Skyridge tent and happy with it so far (in the driveway...hah!)
The tent platform is hinged and has struts to be swung up to get to the storage (Of course, the tent cannot be deployed at the time).
The tool boxes: passenger side box is my electrical hub with charger, dual batteries, solar connection, and Anderson plug to the jeep to a battery isolator. Also has a water pump that feeds a two way valve. One valve heads to the shower hose and the other valve heads to the cooking area on the drivers side. The water is fed from the three 5 gallon jugs mounted on the front.
Mounted flood lights on all sides with both red and white on the cooking side (driver side). The fender on the driving side is the kitchen. Have a 24"x 48" Teflon surface (the tan piece you see on the side) that slide mounts to the side of the trailer and rests on the fender. The toolbox on the driver side is storage for cooking items.
Have a Dobinson cooler mounted inside the trailer on a slide and 12v and 110 v connects inside the storage area to run to the cooler.
My 270 canopy is in the mail to be mounted over the cooking area and swing around to the back.
Going to spend August wrenching some more on the Wrangler and then hit the road in September and plan to be out for a couple of months. In the process of installing a tranny cooler, new Powerstop brakes on all corners, and TuffStuff alternator.
If you have any questions or need help and advice, send me a note.
Kind of proud of what I have done so far. You may ask, how much? I got the raw trailer (these M116A3 are 100% aluminum and built for war) for 700 bucks. The box cost me 1400 to have built. Then the plumbing, tent, shower, canopy batteries ect... are calculated with what you decide to go with.
