My wife, daughter and I are in the process of moving from Honolulu Hawaii to Colorado, we made a stop in Oregon to visit family and buy our new adventure machine. I’ve never been a “Toyota guy.” I got a solid deal on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma DCSB Sport as our new ride. Yeah the off road is cool with it’s crawl control and “fancy” bilstien shocks. But I opted for the sport because it was what was available, and it I liked the look a bit better.
First Mods:
Tires-
265/75/16 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws
I wanted something a little bigger but I was concerned about rubbing. Not quite ready for a Cab mount relocation and UCAs yet... 35s are coming... until then I’m on factory 16’s of a TRD-OR
Toyota Factory remote bed lock-
Pretty easy install, I have a new found hatred of metal zip ties.
Baja Designs Squadron Sport Ditch lights on Cali-Raised brackets-
Not a difficult to install tons of videos and resources online that will get you going on the project
Raptor style Grill lights-
Ordered from theyotagarage the install was simple enough using an add-a-fuse plugged into the injector circuit which keeps everything on 10amp fuses.
There are 3D printed brackets on Etsy by 3b Makers that fit beautifully in the 2020/2021 grills this project was the least important but also I think I enjoyed it the best out of all my projects this far
Diode Dynamics SS3 Fog lights-
The install on the fog lights wasn’t much fun. It felt more like work than anything. The wheel well liners are stiff and don’t bend easily. Because of the mounting system for the Toyota Tacoma factory fogs these lights mount up and seem to be a bit loose. Be sure to adjust them for proper angle or it will be extremely uncomfortable for the person your behind at night.

This mod was super simple, I don’t think your gonna draw on a bunch of power replacing the intake tube or the air filter but if you want a little more sound but don’t want a cold air intake this is a good way to go!
ARE CX classic truck cap-
Not really a mod but a great way to go regardless. I don’t remember the weight rating of hand but I was assured by the dealer that there is no roof top tent on the market that could break the ARE CX classic. Beyond that I liked the look of it.
I will say If you do order One GET THE WIND DOORS and ROOF TRACKS INSTALLED from the factory.
Beyond that I have plans for suspension next- but no clue where to start...King vs Icon vs OME BP-51 vs Toytec. Whether a full Dakar leaf pack is better than an add a leaf vs icon RXT. SPC UCAs vs total Chaos UCAs etc.
After that I think I’ll re-gear and start moving towards bigger tires.
Many adventures await the mods are fun but not necessary for adventure. Get out there and have fun, be safe and keep adventuring forward!
