Hello folks:

I am trying to plan a trip, and would really appreciate any help. Going from NC to MOAB in early June with my son. I am in the process of getting the maps etc, but not sure about a few things.

1) How many days will it take? I have heard about 250 to 300 miles per day is a safe estimate. However, it is not a straight line. I am just not sure how to estimate.

2) Places to camp? Are they easy or hard to find? I have a big tent and worry about finding enough flat ground.

3) How cold? Not sure how to pack, especially for the nights.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions

If my goal was to get to Moab 250-300 miles a day would drive me insane. 500 would help put that to rest, 700 would let me feel like I had accomplished something. That stated, you didn't say how old your son is, this could change everything.

My wife likes KOA, I like running streams. When my wife is with me, we camp where she wants to.

I get your point. My son is 14, and is a little weary of so much time with dad. We have done plenty of 4 day trips, but this will be the most ambitious. The got the estimate of mileage per day from Sam himself. I have no idea if going that rate will take 2 weeks or not.

I am with you and like to be next to a stream and nowhere near a KOA, if possible. However, hard to know where those places are, while KOA are easy to find.
