Heard about Flagpole knob and Switzer lake from a friend and decided to check it out. Switzer lake rd required me to actually drop into 4x4, but only about the last 1/2 of the trip to the FSR 85 junction. Ended up going a little late in the day and it was dusk as I reached Flagpole knob. After Flagpole, FSR85 was just 2wd the whole way down. Because of the time I didn't get to check out the various lines and just stayed on the main road. I wish I had gone much earlier to have a little fun, instead of just a drive. Beautiful views and lots of backcountry campsites.

I did the opposite direction last year. It surprised me how quickly the road condition degraded after heading north from Flagpole. Going down those hills took quite some time. lots of rocks and ruts to get around, with some sections being essentially a road made of bowling ball sized rocks. It did improve significantly about halfway to the lake.
