Hello all,
Spring is around the corner and at least for me, time to buy new tires for my overlander. How many others are doing the same? What tires are you buying and why? What size and what vehicle are the new tires going on? What price did you have to pay for your tires?

I am looking at BFG KO2s. As much as I would like to admit, most of my driving is on pavement, but still want something better in the mud when incountered. Why, BFGs KO2s? Good price, mileage warranty, and many stores are carrying them, so any issues down the road should be easy to have something done about. Looking at going with 31” x 10.5 x 15”s for my 95’ turbo diesel, Jeep Cherokee. I can get these for $166 with mounting and balance. Probably going with Discount Tire for my purchase. Sure want to hear what others will be going with! Thanks for your responses! Benz.

Yes, BFG, KO2s, are the way I am going. For wear on the road and for winter performance. The way things are going with my spending habits, it will be summer before I can buy tires! By then there will be KO3s out to consider! Haha. Benz.

I'll be waiting until late summer/early fall to buy tires, but I'm going with the KO2s in a 35x12.5R17. I've thought about going with the tall/skinny, but they're actually a bit more expensive.

I'm probably going with a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3 in 285/75/16. I had considered a set of more aggressive tires but in all honesty, I've had great service out of the two sets of these I've had.

I get decent fuel mileage, they ride good and are quiet on the highway which is nice since we do a lot of trips in the Xterra. If I decide I want something more aggressive later, my K2500 needs tires this year anyways so I'll move them to it.

Just picked up five 35" Falken Wildpeak MT01's for my Jeep, and I am blown away by how quiet they are. Nice aggressive tread pattern (they performed great at the off road park), 12.5" wide, and I can barely tell they're there. Keep in mind I drive a Jeep JKU and it's typically loud on the highway anyway due to wind noise from accessories, but they're definitely more quiet than my 32" BFG KM2's were.

Just under $1200 for 5 tires with free shipping from tires-easy.com, and they come with hazard protection. I've got about 1,000 miles on them so far with some off roading in there, and am pretty happy with them!

The tires on my rigs are good for another year. I have always had BFG MT's/KM-2's on my Jeep CJ & my Tacoma and love them. Back when I had my Jeep Liberty I ran the KO's and was not real happy with their preformance. My opinions are these: On-road longevity was not as good as advertised (at the time I was putting in a 110 daily commute to & from work) and I had to replce them after 2 years. Off-road performance wasnt as great as I liked, especially on muddy forest service roads, and the sidewalls were not as sturdy & puncture resistant. I have had great luck and am very happy with the KM-2's. I don't find them as loud as most people say, but then again I'm also used to driving an open top CJ-5. Since I get into some bad areas when I go out & about, I'd rather have max tire on the truck. If you dont do a lot of severe trails, the KO's should serve you well, or look onto the Goodyear DuraTracks.

I hope to put off buying tires for at least 1.5 more years xD but I think I'll be looking at BFG KO2s or KO3s by then. I still have a set of KOs on the rig right now and they haven't failed me yet, good on pavement and so far they pulled me through all the sand and mud I threw at them and I doubt I'll get in much stickier situations.

Has anyone seen in person or bought a set of BFGs KM3s? trailspinTV, the Falken Wildpeak MTs was a consideration . Just afraid they would not hold up on the road? I know Falken Tire has been a sponsorship of Ultimate adventure! My Jeep Cherokee build has been built to be able to travel to different parts of this great country, camping and wheeling along the way. Benz.

Our Falken MT/01's showed up today to replace the Goodyear MTRs on our shop JKU. Falken has been a big supporter of the off-road community and has listened to what the people want... and it shows. Great treadwear, great grip, low noise(for an MT). Their AT3W should be a contender on ANYONES all terrain list for sure.

I have been running the Cooper STT Pros on my Tundra for 4500 miles now and while the traction is great, the noise is terrible. I havent had a tire that loud since I ran Interco SXs. They will probably come off later this year in favor of something else... not sure what yet.

I used to run Falken low pros on my cars back when I was more worried about loud sound, big rims, and HP mods instead of steel bumpers, recovery gear, and tents. Always got plenty of mileage on them and never had issues. They seem under-represented in the off road game, but I took a chance. I’ll be more than happy to review them down the (off)road.

Yes, let me know how they hold up! The guys on JP magazine seem to like them. My tire guy has lots of good to say about the Generals AP3s, TerryD, on this site uses them. I just keep wanting a good MT tire. Ran Mickey Thompson’s MTZ on my CJ7, they work in a lot of conditions also. Glad we live in a country where we have lots of choices! Benz.

Saving up to replace the 215/65-16 Milestone Full Winter piles of crap currently on my car.

Will probably go for Dunlop Grandtrek AT3 in a 235/60-16 size (with black steel wheels) as I can't justify the price of KO2's, will also have to buy 4 new tires later this year for the next winter season.

These are the wheels I'm considering.

I've ben running BFG MT2's. I came across them on craigslist in really good condition for a great price. I've been with them for two and a half years. And they are starting to show their age.
Considering that most of my trips are from maintained dirt roads to the occasional rock garden, my next set will be a set of KO2's.
Me being relatively new to the activity, the KM2's happened to be my first set of real tires. My original tires were Yokohama Geolanders AT, more of an All-Season street tire if you ask me. The KM2's were great and I had fun playing in the mud. But overall I think it is a lot more tire than I need. So I plan to give the KO2's a try.

Where is everyone finding the best tire prices? Talking new tires now. For me, Discount Tire. Benz.
For readily available tires (read not Interco) my local tire guy has the best prices. You can get then cheaper online, but by the time you pay to mount and balance them, Homer is within a few dollars of the price and I'm supporting a local guy who's always taken care of me when I needed a quick inspection or tire mounted.

I just had my tire guys order a set of 285/75/16s for the Xterra. They should be in next week. If the size works ok, I'll be ordering another set this summer for my K2500. If not, I'll move these to my truck and put 265/75/16s on the Xterra instead.

New tires! Yup I looked at them all. I want to save my winter tires for winter so will be picking up a set of AT on/off road rubber. In looking at the reviews I decided to go with a set of Motomaster (Canadian Tire brand) AT3 tires. They look very similar to another popular off road brand name and offer great warranty, speed and load rating. At a much better price. I had a set of these on my 2013 Tacoma and put 50,000 plus kilometers on then on and off road, poured the power to them at corners and intersections and noticed little for wear. Great mud cleaning traits and traction, winter rated, and low road noise. The overall rating systems used for comparing tires indicates these are as high or higher rated than most other popular tires like the KO2, Wrangler, Discoverer and the like. May be something you all may want to look at.
