Hey there all, since my first excursion on three-wheelers across the Anza Borrego State Park (yes, it was once legal back until about 1986), I have had the itch. Most of my offroading has been in the Anza Borrego area or out on the Mojave, but have been exploring Big Bear and looking forward to a Death Valley trip this spring. I'd like to join others from the area and have already seen a planned local meet up/hang out on the Rally Point threads. My first overlanding was in my '88 Mitsubishi Montero which was then stolen, so we replaced it with a then-brand new 1991 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 with the manual hubs option package. That was November of 1990, and I have been overlanding ever since. For the first 12 years it served as the family wagon, so things stayed tame. The vehicle has seen everything in its 236,000+ miles and was the primary family vehicle and then the kids' car when they started driving. Now that they're grown and gone (and I'm single), it's now armed with a custom lift (since 2005) 33's, and 4.56 gears and TruTrack diffs. I'm proud to be associated with Overland Bound because of their pledge to be responsible. After years of folks abusing the desert landscapes, it's about time we reaize how lucky we are to have such pristine natural resources and how small they can seem when we're all out there at the same time. And for me, the tangible history which you can literally see all around you is just too cool. But then again, I love the desert, and everything it stands for. After all, it's pretty wonderful to spend a comfortable spring or fall weekend in the desert with great friends, or even by yourself. 20201212_161609.jpg

One of the biggest thins I miss about living in California is the Anza Borrego and Ocotillo areas. I was stationed out there for a few years and would spend fall/winter down in the desert and spend the summers up in the mountains such as around Toro Peak and around Idlwylde and whatnot. Much nicer sleeping at 8000+ feet in the middle of summer.

Love that Explorer.
