SE Utah and Colorado Accessible in Mid-March?

While I typically have a week or so for travel in late May, it may turn out that my opportunity for travel next year may be in mid-March. I know SE Utah (Capital Reef east to Moab and south) is quite accessible in May having gone the last two summers, but what about March? Are places like Elk Ridge and some of the higher elevations still covered in snow in March? I sure don’t want to get out there and all the roads be closed.

I’m also interested in Colorado, but am guessing that may be too early to avoid the deep snow packs. Thoughts?

Well, I was thinking north of Durango. However, after looking at the USFS MVUM, it seems the vast majority of forest service roads in that area are closed until early May. I guess there wouldn’t be many places to stay in the woods then.

For SE Utah, the MVUM for the Elk Ridge area (Monticello Ranger District), it seems most roads are open year round. I wonder if they are drivable?
