RTT Width Question

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere before but I literally can't find any write up on it and I've never had a RTT.

I have an '03 D2 that I camp out of with Gazelle T3.
I just got an '05 GX470 that I'm evaluating putting a RTT for more comfort camping with my wife.

Rudimentary question: What's an acceptable side overhang? The victory roof rack I've put on is about 48" wide. The roof top tents I'm looking at are 52" and 60" wide, respectively.

Is 2" overhang that I'd have on each side with the 52" acceptable? Is the 6" overhand that I'd have on each side with the 60" too much?

I wouldn’t go with a rrt more than 52” wide, for the GX. I built my own roof rack for my GX470, and I made it 47” wide. Anything more than a 52” I think would be too wide.
