Due to hauling more gear I will have to start using the roof rack more. I currently am using ratchet straps which are fine but aren't a fast option. Any ideas of quick release tie downs to hold stuff down to the rack?

Most of the time I am using heavy duty tubs on the rack..

The only thing that I can think of that is quicker than ratchets are bungees. If you can find the proper length heavy black ones, they work great, and don't give as much as the braided cord type. Also, a bungee net is pretty nice, but wont have the weight rating of the heavier black bungees. Or what about these? you just pull through and press to release. But you would want to check the weight rating.

I like cam lock straps for our stuff; fast, strong, and secure.

You can loop it around the bars and make big things very secure.
I trust them to hold our kevlar canoe up there at highway speeds so boxes won't be a problem.
If your boxes were always going to be up there I would look at building a mount or bolting them through the bottom to the rack.
