Probably quite a bit for the more stoutly built options, but I would bet you would get great responses in the 5th gen section of www.toyota-4runner.org !
Even just a receiver hitch will add quite a bit of protection to the back of a rig but a full bumper goes a lot further. The aftermarket bumpers for the 4Runner wrap around the sides of the rig and keep a lot of sheet metal safe. They are expensive, but a whole lot cheaper than a replacement plastic bumper and the associated bodywork. The rear frame isnt anything to worry about unless you are really pushing the rig hard in the rocks.
CBI makes a good rear bumper for our rigs. I am also going to be speaking with C4 Fabrication when I pick up my sliders about doing a rear bumper and possibly producing one if it works out.
Some makes of rear bumpers provide better departure angles. If you go with a tire carrier even better to get your tire out from under the rig. Side protection for our rigs and aftermarket bumpers I'd argue is negligible.
