Quickfist mounts

I've been looking for a way to mount my ax and shovel onto my Smittybilt Defender roof rack without having to buy the mount made for that rack. I had previously bought the mount made by smittybilt but it didn't work and wasn't worth the money so I sent it back. Has anyone used Quickfists to mount their shovel, ax, or other tools onto a roof rack or other cargo rack? If so, did you have any issues with the tools moving around or coming loose because of highway winds? I have four Quickfists and some Quickfist mounting accessories, but I'm very concerned with the stability of those mounts while traveling on the highway.

If you don't mind me asking why didn't it work? The holes not line up?? I have a smittybilt roofrack and bought the axe/shovel mount and the holes didn't line up so I had to drill through but I got it on and it looks kick ass! But I've heard pros and cons of the quickfist, sorry not trying to high jack your thread but was just curious

In my opinion, Quickfists are a great secondary method of attaching various things. By secondary, I mean that they can hold firm but maybe not completely secure should something get funky like high winds, cross-winds, big bumps, etc.
Have some primary way to hold such as a groove or saddle for the shovel/axe then use QF's for the handle.
They should also be checked frequently for securement (I don't think that's a real word, but I like it)
Plus they don't lock.

I bought an interior hi-lift mount for my JK from dominion offroad, I also got an accessory that basically adds a couple quick fists, I have had issues getting them snug enough, my gransfors bruks axe won't fit well because the handle is curved, and my shovel has managed to move enough to start rattling against the jack. The axe isn't a big deal it fit, but the shovel is as tight as I could get it and still moves around a little.

I could get one in, but I could never figure the magic trick that is required to balance one tool, while trying get the other one into the mount, and then hold both in place to tighten the nut. I fought with it for a half a day before I gave up and took it back.

Ahhhhh well I could def see that! It would be a nightmare if I did it alone initially but I haven't used it since bc it's only been on for a bout a week or so.. but tbh I'm sure I'll have the same problem and I didn't think about that until now. Thanks for the insight

I use quick-fists on the interior of the vehicle. Ive seen some UV/Weather caused material degradation when mounted outside the vehicle. I have my axe mounted where the door handle used to be in my trooper. Works perfectly for me.

Yeah it was a nightmare...I thought it would be easy with a second person but decided to send it back and try something cheaper...now I'm having a hard time finding anything that is secure...probably should have just kept it

I had the Quickfists on my previous roof rack and during a trip they got caught in some brush (weirdly) and the shovel fell off. I always had a hard time getting them exactly to the point where I felt they were secure or snug enough. I also noticed that they tend to get UV fade so easily. Now I use them only inside like @cjones. I've experimented with them at various times, but I just never feel "secure" about them long term on the rack. I have a Baja Rack with their Hi Lift and shovel/axe mounting kit and I updated the clips and then made them lockable and they work awesome. I am always so phobic of stuff flying off my roof, especially with my 2 pelican boxes attached at times. For them, I use the EO2 mounting system with just 1 ratchet strap and it's locked down secure for anything. I know that's off topic, sorry.

Well I mean you can always reorder it! I also tried to lock it with a gun lock.. didn't work but I found a suitcase lock worked but not very big.. so if they really wanna get them they can.. just did it as some sort of deterance! Also have the spare tire mount for the roofrack for sale if you're interested.. sorry off topic but figured I'd let ya know! I'll let it go for $50 and it's brand new never used.
