Enthusiast III
More like a "drive report" than an Overland outing, and certainly nothing too exciting compared to what some do on here, but here goes... To celebrate my 40th trip around the sun, the wife and I took the day off, dropped the munchkin off at daycare, and headed north to drive through the mountains, and check out at least a small section of the Georgia Traverse. It rained on and off pretty much the whole time, but never so much that were afraid to get out and check things out.
Top of Blood Mountain.
Eventually found some dirt, on Helton Creek Falls Road.
Didn't go all the way down to the falls, as it was sprinkling and we were both not really desiring to get soaked.
I was NOT adventurous enough to try this creek crossing. The lack of recovery gear, or friends who knew how to use it made me extra weary about trying something like this in my first outing. This is about as deep a spot as I could find, and while this particular dip could be avoided, others couldn't.
Turned around and headed back out, and drove some mountain roads to get around to the other side, Hatchet Creek Rd. Found a shallower creak that was easy to deal with.
Both my wife and I really enjoyed this, so I know we'll be back for more. There's a lot more of the GA Traverse to check out. It'd be nice to get a lift, some skid plates, and move the low sitting fuel tank breather hose (as well as get the necessary recovery/emergency gear) to make more of this trail accessible to me.
