I am currently out here in lovely Louisiana and those of you who have been in the army will know my pain. I am at JRTC preparing for a deployment but in my mind i am getting paid to overland for the next month.

I will be primarily living out of my MRAP and traveling for the next few weeks through the backwoods of Louisiana. The fun part is i get to practice load plans, vehicle recovery, comms, and living off what i can pack.

Everything i do for work translates over to my hobby and i love it.

Are there any other members out there who share the same ability to work and do the same thing?

Not currently, but when I was a scout, I spent some quality time overlanding in HMMWVs. One of the things that drew me to overlanding was how much some of the skills I acquired as a scout translated to this.

@Rubyredfozzy and @outwardbound , check out Veteran Overland. We're a newer group, but growing.
Thanks. I've been looking for something like this too. Additionally I'm looking to create a nonprofit when I retire in a few years. The concept is to plan, and execute overland trips with vets and bring them along to experience the outdoors and things and places they might not otherwise get too. Similar to Mission Overland in Oregon. But focused on the East Coast.

After 4 rotations at JRTC I can confidently say that I have done way more vehicle recovery there than all of my overland/off-road trips combined.
One of my rotations was as an OCT there for another unit, and the difference that vehicle weight makes is insane. The unit’s HMMWVs were getting stuck everywhere, but my light-skin OC HMMWV was floating over everything.
